A legendary entertainer died on June 25, 2009, and the influence he has made over the collective fashion industry throughout his 50 years is undeniable. As the King of Pop, Michael Jackson’s revolutionary contributions to the world are not limited to his contributions to music and dance moves. As a fashion pioneer, Jackson left his fans in a daze with his legendary style, and no doubt launched many of the fashion trends that are still alive today.

Michael Jackson understood the power of costume, on and off the stage, and it was not long after the start of his career that he became a style icon of the 1980s. With his signature single crystal-encrusted glove, tight, high-water pants, leather jackets, aviator glasses and his Jeri-curl hair, Jackson’s look was entirely his own.

Before Jackson came along, the rules for showing off your white socks were hard and fast: Don’t do it. But once the world saw him perform a magical feat known as the moonwalk, we decided there must have been some kind of magic in his footwear.

 In “Thriller” – the 14-minute mini-movie that launched a million dance moves, both the man Jackson and werewolf Jackson wore a fitted red leather jacket covered in zippers with matching red pants. That jacket was knocked off in dozens of colors and fabrics, and captured 80s excess in all its glory.

Despite any negative press about Jackson, a certain affection for his 1980s looks has lived on. In March “American Idol” staged a Michael Jackson night, and contestants readily donned cropped jackets and chains and did their best to bring his beloved songs to life.

3. wear shoes with a low heel or flats that your are most comfortable in and that do not draw attention.

4. Limited jewelry and light make-up is key! You do not want to look like you are preparing for a night out on the town, keep it simple and classy.

5. Always be prepared with your resume, paper, pen, and anything else that might be appropriate for the type of job you are applying for.
